Help and frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know to get the most out of the wheel.

Adding entries

Type each entry on its own line, or paste a list from a spreadsheet, chat or document. Empty lines are ignored. You can use names, numbers, words, sentences and emojis.

Giving an entry more chance

Add an asterisk and a number at the end of a line, for example “Anna *3”. Anna then gets a slice three times bigger and three times the chance of any entry without a number.

Removing winners

After a spin, press Remove to take the winner off the wheel. Turn on “Remove the winner after each spin” in Settings to do it automatically, which is useful for raffles and taking turns.

Sharing and saving

Your wheel is saved in this browser automatically. Press Share to get a link with the entries, title and colors; anyone who opens it gets the same wheel. The link contains the list itself, so it is never stored on our server.

Full screen and keyboard

Use the full screen button for projectors and streams. Press Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on Mac) to spin and Esc to close the result.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the wheel for a giveaway?

Yes. Paste the participants, turn on full screen and spin live. The result is drawn with a cryptographic random generator, so it is fair.

Why is my wheel gone?

Wheels are saved in your browser. Private mode, clearing browser data or another browser or device start with a fresh wheel. Use Share to keep a link to your wheel.

Can I turn off the sound?

Yes, switch off Sound in Settings. You can also turn off confetti and change the spin time.

Does the wheel work offline?

Once the page has loaded, spinning works without internet.

Do you collect my names?

No. Entries never leave your device. We only use anonymous statistics about page visits.

Which languages are available?

Wheel of Who is available in more than 100 languages. Use the language button at the top of the page.

Is the wheel really random?

Yes. The winner is chosen with crypto.getRandomValues, the secure random number generator built into your browser. The animation only shows the result; it cannot be influenced.

Is Wheel of Who free?

Yes, completely free with no sign-up and no limits on entries or spins.

How many entries can I add?

Up to 1,000 entries. With many entries the names on the wheel get smaller, but every entry still has its fair chance.

How do I remove the winner?

Press Remove in the winner window, or turn on “Remove the winner after each spin” in Settings to do it automatically.

Can I make one entry more likely?

Yes. Add *2, *3 and so on at the end of a line, for example “Pizza *3”. That entry gets a slice three times bigger and three times the chance.

Are my entries saved?

Your last wheel is saved in your browser, so it is still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server.

How do I share my wheel?

Press Share. You get a link that opens the same entries, title and colors on any device.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. The wheel is built for touch screens and works in every modern browser on Android, iPhone, iPad, Windows, Mac and Chromebook.

Shortcuts: Ctrl+Enter spins, Esc closes the result.
